Abstract

The objective of this research is to know whether there is significant influence of using scaffolding technique towards students’ report text writing ability at the first semester of the eleventh grade of SMA Pangudi Luhur Bandar Lampung in the academic year of 2018/2019. Quasi experimental design was used in this research. The population was eleventh grade of SMA Pangudi Luhur Bandar Lampung. The total sample in this research consisted of 71 students that were taken from two classes, XI IPA 1 and XI IPS 1, by using Cluster Random Sampling. In collecting the data, the researcher used the instrument of pre-test and post-test. Pre test was conducted before the treatment and post test was conducted after the treatment that was done only to the experimental class by using scaffolding technique and the control class was taught by using dictation technique. After giving the pre test and post test, the data were analyzed by using SPSS Statistic 16.0 After testing the hypothesis, it was found that the result of Sig. (2-tailed) of the equal variance assumed was 0.017. The result then it was consulted to the level of significance. The level of significance was 0.05. From the analysis, the score of Sig.(2-tailed) or Sig. (pvalue) was lower than α=0.05 so Ho was rejected. In other words, it could be concluded that there was an influence of using scaffolding technique towards students’ report text writing ability at the first semester of the eleventh grade of SMA Pangudi Luhur Bandar Lampung in the academic year of 2018/2019.
