Abstract

ABSTRACT Vocational education is a type of education that emphasizes the acquisition of work-related skills. The objectives of the research are to find out the target needs and learning needs of English subject for the Tourism Services Business students of SMK N 3 Bandar Lampung. Through the employment of descriptive qualitative research design, a set of questionnaire was distributed to the 34 participants of Tourism Services business class and an interview was conducted involving two English teachers of SMKN 3 Bandar Lampung. The result of the data analysis revealed that the main target that the students need to achieve from the English language learning is to get the good job in the future. This means that the students’ purpose of learning is to prepare them in the challenge and competition of the world of work. Regarding the skills that the students want to develop, the main skill are speaking and writing. These two productive skills are considered the main skills required for communicative skill in the world of work. In addition, regarding the need of resources for achieving the target needs, providing additional material sources that correlate to the target needs will be beneficial.
