Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was conducted to investigate students' difficulties in writing advertisement text. Students often had difficulties in developing and organizing their ideas when writing advertisement texts. Therefore, this research aimed to determine whether there was a significant effect of using Canva towards students' writing in advertisement texts at the tenth grade of MA Al-Hikmah Bandar Lampung in the academic year 2025/2026. This research used a quantitative approach with a quasi experimental design. The population of this research was the tenth grade students of MA Al-Hikmah Bandar Lampung. The samples consisted of 25 students in the experimental class and 24 students in the control class. The experimental class was taught using Project Based Learning with Canva as the learning media, while the control class was taught using Project-Based Learning with posters as the learning media. The data were collected through writing tests consisting of a pre-test and a post-test. The students' writing was assessed based on five aspects: content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics. The data was analyzed using a normality test, a homogeneity test, and an independent samples t-test. The results showed that the mean post-test score of the experimental class was 82.04, while the control class obtained a mean score of 67.42. The independent samples t-test showed that the Sig. (2-tailed) value was 0.000, which was lower than the significance level of 0.05. Therefore, H₀ was rejected and Hₐ was accepted. It can be concluded that there was a significant effect of using Canva towards students' writing in advertisement texts. The findings indicated that the use of Canva integrated with Project-Based Learning supported students in developing and organizing their ideas during the writing process. Therefore, Canva can be used as an alternative learning medium to support students' writing in advertisement texts. However, there were still some limitations, as students needed more practice using Canva both before and after class to become more familiar with its features and use it more effectively in the writing process.
