Abstract

Abstract This study examines the concept of fatherly role modeling in the Qur’an based on the interpretations of Teungku Muhammad Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy in Tafsir An-Nuur and Tafsir Al-Bayan. The research is motivated by the phenomenon of the father figure crisis in modern families, where fathers are often perceived merely as breadwinners and are less involved in the moral and spiritual education of their children. In fact, the Qur’an provides numerous portrayals of exemplary fathers through the stories of prophets and righteous individuals. This research employs a library research method with a qualitative approach and utilizes the tafsir muqarran (comparative exegesis) method. Primary data were obtained from Tafsir An-Nuur and Tafsir Al-Bayan, while secondary data were collected from books, journal articles, and related studies. The findings reveal that, according to Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy, fathers in the Qur’an have several essential roles: as educators of tawhid (Islamic monotheism), moral guides, role models of obedience to Allah, protectors of family well being, and advocates for their children's salvation. These concepts are relevant to Albert Bandura’s Social Learning Theory, which emphasizes learning through observation and imitation. Fatherly role modeling plays a significant role in children's character development, as children tend to observe and emulate their fathers' behavior in everyday life.
