Abstract
ABSTRACT STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS ABOUT THE USE OF TIKTOK FOR IMPROVING PRONUNCIATION IN SPEAKING ENGLISH AT UIN RADEN INTAN LAMPUNG Social media has become an increasingly influential part of daily life, particularly in the ways individuals’ access and engage with information. According to IDN Media data (2024) TikTok was the second-most widely used application in Indonesia. Beyond its primary function as an entertainment platform, it has increasingly been used to educate whether formal or informal learning. The study was conducted because TikTok provides short and engaging English content that support students’ pronunciation learning, while students’ perceptions of its use specifically for pronunciation need to be understood. This study employed descriptive quantitative research design using a survey method. The data were collected through a questionnaire consisting of 18 valid and reliable statements using a five-point Likert scale from Strongly Agree and Strongly Disagree. The sample consisted of 92 students from the English Education Study Program academic year 2024/2025 at UIN Raden Intan Lampung, with 23 students selected from each of semesters 2, 4, 6, and 8 through stratified random sampling. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The results showed that students generally had a positive perception of using TikTok to support English pronunciation learning. The ten indicators were categorized as Good or Very Good. The highest mean score was found in Self-Awareness at 4.36, indicating that TikTok helped students become more aware of their pronunciation errors. Meanwhile, Media Accessibility had the lowest mean score at 3.59, although it was still categorized as Good. Therefore, TikTok was positively perceived by students as a supporting medium for learning English pronunciation in speaking. Keywords: Students’ Perception, TikTok, English Pronunciation, Descriptive Quantitative.
