Abstract

ABSTRACK This study aims to analyze the effect of liquidity, profitability, leverage, and firm size on financial distress in companies listed in the LQ45 Index during the 2021–2024 period from an Islamic perspective. Financial distress is a condition of financial difficulty that may threaten a company's business continuity. This research is motivated by the decline in profits and assets of several LQ45 companies, indicating the potential occurrence of financial distress. This study employs a quantitative research method using secondary data obtained from the financial statements of companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The sampling technique used is purposive sampling, resulting in 14 companies as research samples with a total of 76 observations during the 2021–2024 period. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS version 26. The results show that liquidity has a positive coefficient of 1,384 with a significance value of 0,000, profitability has a positive coefficient of 6,245 with a significance value of 0,006, leverage has a negative coefficient of -1.207 with a significance value of 0,000, and firm size has a negative coefficient of -0,777 with a significance value of 0,000. Based on hypothesis testing, liquidity does not have a significant negative effect on financial distress, profitability does not have a significant negative effect on financial distress, leverage does not have a significant positive effect on financial distress, while firm size has a significant negative effect on financial distress. Therefore, only firm size is proven to influence financial distress in accordance with the proposed hypothesis. From an Islamic perspective, the findings indicate that corporate performance is not solely determined by the ability to generate profits, maintain liquidity, or manage debt, but must also be based on the principles of trustworthiness (amanah), justice, transparency, and accountability in order to sustain business continuity and promote the welfare of all stakeholders. Keywords: Liquidity, Profitability, Leverage, Firm Size, Financial Distress, Islamic Perspective.
