Abstract

ABSTRACK This study aims to describe the process of internalizing the values of Panca Jiwa in shaping the character of responsibility among students at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor Campus 7 Lampung. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study method to gain an in-depth understanding of the character-building process through the pesantren way of life. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the internalization of Panca Jiwa values occurs through three stages: value transformation, value transaction, and transinternalization. The study further shows that the internalization process takes place in a gradual, systematic, and continuous manner. The value transformation stage plays a role in developing students’ cognitive understanding of Panca Jiwa values through various introductory activities and explanations regarding pesantren life. The value transaction stage provides practical experiences through students’ active involvement in educational activities, assignments, habituation, role modeling, supervision, and evaluation carried out in daily pesantren life. Meanwhile, the transinternalization stage results in the formation of a sense of responsibility that has become an integral part of the students’ self-awareness, as reflected in their attitudes, behaviors, and decision-making processes. Therefore, the development of responsible character among students at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor Campus 7 Lampung is achieved through the integration of value education, role modeling, pesantren culture, assignment systems, and a twenty-four-hour boarding school environment that continuously supports character formation. This study implies that character education in Islamic boarding schools can be effectively implemented when educational values are not merely taught theoretically but are also internalized through role modeling, habituation, and an integrated system of daily life activities.
