Abstract

ABSTRACT Students who work part-time while studying face various academic and work demands that can potentially lead to stress, fatigue, and role conflict. This situation requires students to develop effective coping strategies to balance both roles. This study aims to explore the coping strategies used by part-time students in their dual roles as students and employees. This study used qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach. The study subjects consisted of four part-time students. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and documentation, then analyzed thematically using NVivo software to identify emerging themes from the participants' experiences. The results showed that students used problem-focused and emotion-focused coping strategies to deal with the demands of their dual roles. Problem-focused coping involves time management, prioritizing, scheduling, and resolving academic and financial issues. Meanwhile, emotion-focused coping involves seeking social support from family, partners, and friends, as well as various relaxation activities. In addition to helping manage stress, the experience of working while studying also has positive impacts, including increased independence, self-confidence, time management skills, an understanding of the world of work, and expanded social networks. Keyword: coping strategies, part-time student workers, dual roles, problem focused coping, emotion focused coping.
