Abstract

ABSTRACT Vocabulary mastery is an essential component of English language learning because it enables students to understand and use English effectively. However, many tenth-grade students at SMA Yadika Bandar Lampung had limited vocabulary mastery. To address this issue, this study aimed to investigate the influence of the Kahoot! application on students' vocabulary mastery. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasiexperimental design. The sample consisted of 64 tenth-grade students, including 32 students in the experimental class and 32 students in the control class, selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected through multiple-choice vocabulary tests administered as pretests and post-tests. The data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney U Test. The findings revealed that the experimental class improved from a mean score of 63.38 in the pre-test to 76.38 in the post-test, while the control class improved from 59.63 to 70.25. The Mann–Whitney U Test produced an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.018, which was lower than the significance level of 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference between the two groups. The effect size was r = 0.295, indicating a medium effect of the Kahoot! application on students' vocabulary mastery. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Kahoot! application had a significant influence on the vocabulary mastery of tenth-grade students at SMA Yadika Bandar Lampung.
