Abstract

ABSTRACT Vocabulary mastery is an essential component of English language learning as it supports students’ ability to understand and communicate effectively. However, preliminary data at the tenth grade of SMK Bina Latih Karya Bandar Lampung indicated that 62% of students scored below the Minimum Mastery Criterion (KKM), reflecting a need for more effective instructional strategies. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the influence of Digital Storytelling on students’ vocabulary mastery in the academic year of 2025/2026. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasiexperimental design, specifically the nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 52 tenth-grade students divided into an experimental class and a control class. The experimental class was taught using Digital Storytelling, while the control class received conventional instruction. Data were collected through vocabulary tests administered as pre-tests and post-tests. The data were analyzed using normality and homogeneity tests, followed by an independent sample ttest to determine the significance of the treatment effect. The findings revealed that students taught through Digital Storytelling achieved higher improvement in vocabulary mastery than those taught through conventional methods. The mean score of the experimental class increased from 66.85 to 84.07, while the control class improved from 75.40 to 80.00. Furthermore, the independent sample t-test showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.001, which was lower than 0.05. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis was accepted, indicating that Digital Storytelling had a significant positive influence on students’ vocabulary mastery. It can be concluded that Digital Storytelling is an effective and innovative technique for enhancing vocabulary learning in English classrooms.
