Abstract
ABSTRACT This study aims to investigate students’ experiences in using DeepL in translation learning and to identify the advantages and disadvantages of using DeepL. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving eleven sixth-semester students of the English Education Department at UIN Raden Intan Lampung. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and a preliminary questionnaire. The findings showed that students generally had positive experiences using DeepL in translation learning. DeepL helped students understand the meaning of texts, recognize academic sentence structures, and complete translation tasks more efficiently. The advantages of DeepL included speed in translating texts, consistency in terminology, learning efficiency, and ease of use. However, several disadvantages were also identified, including difficulties in understanding meaning accurately, contextual limitations, challenges in translating cultural and idiomatic expressions, and dependence on source language structures. In conclusion, DeepL is a useful supporting tool in translation learning. Furtheremore, students should critically evaluate and revise translation outputs to ensure translation accuracy and contextual appropriateness.
