Abstract
ABSTRACT THE INFLUENCE OF USING ONE PIECE LIVE ACTION FILM MEDIA IN IMPROVING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS' ENGLISH VOCABULARY MASTERY BY: ELSA AZKYA FADHILLA This study investigated the effect of using the One Piece Live Action film on students’ vocabulary mastery. Many students still experience difficulties in learning English, particularly in mastering vocabulary, due to monotonous and less contextual teaching methods that reduce students’ engagement in the learning process. Vocabulary is one of the essential components in English language learning because it supports students’ ability to understand and use the language effectively. Therefore, the researcher used the One Piece Live Action film as a teaching medium to provide a more contextual and engaging learning experience. The objective of this study was to examine the significant effect of using the One Piece Live Action film on students’ vocabulary mastery. This study employed a quantitative method with a quasiexperimental design using pre-test and post-test procedures. The population of this study consisted of students of SMAN 7 Bandar Lampung in the academic year 2024/2025. The sample was selected through cluster random sampling technique, consisting of an experimental class and a control class. The experimental class received treatment using the One Piece Live Action film, while the control class was taught using conventional teaching methods. Data were collected through vocabulary tests administered in the pre-test and post-test sessions. The result of the independent sample t-test showed that the value of Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.000, which was lower than 0.05. This finding indicates that there was a significant effect of using the One Piece Live Action film on students’ vocabulary mastery. Furthermore, the experimental class showed better improvement in vocabulary achievement compared to the control class. The use of film media also provided a more contextual and engaging learning experience for students in learning English vocabulary.
