Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to determine "The Effect of The Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) Learning Model on Students' Listening Skills in English Lessons for Grade XI Students of SMA N 14 Bandar Lampung". The background of this research is based on the low learning outcomes of students, particularly in listening skills, as indicated by many students who have not achieved the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM (Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal)). Therefore, an effective and communicative learning model is needed to improve students’ learning outcomes. This research employed a quantitative approach using an experimental method with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The population of this study consisted of 36 grade XI students, and the sampling technique used was total sampling. The research instrument was a multiple-choice test to measure students’ listening skills, which had been tested for validity, reliability, difficulty level, and discrimination power. The results of the study showed a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes after the implementation of the CLT learning model. This can be seen from the increase in the mean score from 72.17 in the pretest to 96.43 in the posttest. In addition, prerequisite tests indicated that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous, allowing hypothesis testing to be conducted. The results of the t-test revealed that there was a significant effect of the CLT learning model on students’ listening skills. In conclusion, the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) learning model has a positive and significant effect on improving students’ listening skills in English subjects for grade XI students of SMA Negeri 14 Bandar Lampung.
