Abstract

ABSTRACT In learning English, there are four skills that must be mastered by students, Speaking is one of the skills to be mastered by students in order to communicate in English. Speaking is a complex process that involves the transfer of information from one individual to another through the use of spoken language. However, there are still many students who experience difficulties in learning speaking skills due to several factors. These include include a lack of confidence, a lack of fluency, and difficulties to practice speaking English. Based on preliminary research at SMK 2 Mei Bandar Lampung, it was found that 60 students at Twelfth grade indicated low score at speaking skills. The objective of the study there is any influence of Character AI Application towards students’ speaking skills. The research approach used in this study was quantitative method by using a quasi-experimental design. The population of this research was the students' Twelfth grade of SMK 2 Mei Bandar Lampung in academic year of 2024/2025 with totals 221 students. The total sample in this research was 60 students, 30 students of XII TBSM 2 (YAMAHA) dan 30 students of XII TKR 3 (INDUSTRI). In collecting the data, the researcher gave treatment in experimental class and no treatment to control class and pre test also post test in both of class by gave an oral. After giving the test, the researcher analyzed the data by using SPSS Statistics 20. Based on data analysis and hypothesis testing, the results of using the independent sample t-test showed that the significance value of equal variance assumed was sig. 0.000 <0.05, which meant that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. From this analysis, we knew that the use of the Character AI Application had an influence on students' speaking ability.
