Abstract

Abstract This study aims to examine the characteristics of family conflicts arising from toxic behavior in the competitive online game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) and to formulate a family mediation strategy based on the principles of Islamic Family Law, specifically sulh and tahkīm. The approach used was qualitative with an empirical descriptive-analytical design through an integration of literature review, conceptual legal analysis, and synthetic case illustrations to strengthen analytical rigor and theoretical coherence. The results indicate that family conflicts are triggered by competitive pressure and online disinhibition during gameplay, which then spill over into the domestic sphere in the form of emotional tension, neglect of family responsibilities, and financial conflict due to in-game spending. These findings underpin the formulation of the 5M Family Mediation Model, which encompasses problem mapping, managing emotions, deliberation, reaching agreements, and monitoring and evaluating outcomes. The model emphasizes the importance of empathetic communication, emotional control, structured limits on gaming duration and expenditure, and strengthening Islamic values and tahkīm as mechanisms for just and sustainable conflict resolution. This research provides a conceptual contribution to the study of digital behavior and family mediation from an Islamic legal perspective, despite its limitations due to its illustrative nature and the lack of primary empirical data from the field. This situation opens up space for further empirical-based research to test the effectiveness of the proposed model in broader and more diverse social contexts.
