Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aimed to investigate the influence of SpeechAce on students’ speaking skills, particularly in pronunciation accuracy, among eighth-grade students’ at SMPN 01 Terbanggi Besar in the 2025/2026 academic year. The research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group. Two classes were selected through cluster random sampling, consisting of one experimental class and one control class. The experimental class received pronunciation instruction using SpeechAce integrated with drill technique, while the control class was taught using conventional technique, including teacher modelling and printed dictionaries. The data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests in the form of speaking assessments. Prior to hypothesis testing, the data were analyzed using normality and homogeneity tests to ensure that the statistical assumptions were fulfilled. The results showed that both groups had relatively similar mean scores in the pre-test, indicating comparable initial speaking skills. However, after the treatment, the experimental class demonstrated a higher mean post-test score than the control class. The Independent Samples t-test revealed a significance value of 0.000, which was lower than the 0.05 level of significance. This result indicates that there was a statistically significant difference between the speaking performance of students’ taught using SpeechAce and those taught using traditional technique. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that SpeechAce exerts a significant influence on students’ speaking skills. The use of automated feedback, native like pronunciation models, and interactive features provided by SpeechAce contributed positively to students’ pronunciation accuracy, confidence, and engagement in speaking activities. Therefore, SpeechAce can be considered an effective technological tool for influence speaking instruction in EFL classrooms.
