Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was motivated by students‟ difficulties in speaking English fluently, especially when retelling narrative texts. To solve this problem, the researcher applied Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) using the Beelinguapp application combined with the AudioLingual Method and shadowing technique as a medium to improve students‟ speaking ablility. The objective of the research was to find out whether there is a significant influence of using Beelinguapp-based MALL with shadowing technique on students‟ speaking skills. This research used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental pre-test–post-test design. Two classes of the tenth grade were selected through purposive sampling: X OTKP (17 students) as the experimental class taught using Beelinguapp with shadowing, and X TKJ (10 students) as the control class taught conventionally. The data were obtained from an oral speaking test assessed by two raters on pronunciation, fluency, grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension, and were analyzed using SPSS 25. The results showed that the mean score of the experimental class influence from 38.18 to 49.88, while the control class influence from 35.6 to 43.1, with a higher gain score in the experimental class. Normality and homogeneity tests were fulfilled, and the significance value was lower than 0.05, indicating that H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that using Beelinguapp-based MALL with shadowing technique has a significant influence on students‟ speaking skills at the tenth grade of SMK Taruna Bandar Lampung in the academic year of 2025/2026.
