Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini membahasa tentang strategi komunikasi tokoh agama dalam mewujudkan toleransi umat beragama pada masyarakat Islam dan Katolik di Desa Sumber Arum Kabupaten Lampung Utara. Latar belakang penelitian ini diambil dari realitas sosial masyarakat Desa Sumber Arum yang hidup dalam keberagaman agama namun mampu menjaga keharmonisan dan kerukunan tanpa konflik, sehingga menarik untuk dikaji dari sudut pandang komunikasi keagamaan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana strategi komunikasi yang dilakukan oleh tokoh agama Islam dan Katolik dalam mewujudkan toleransi umat beragama, serta untuk mengidentifikasi faktor pendukung dan penghambat yang memengaruhi proses tersebut. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan lapangan (field research), penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif dan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Data primer diperoleh langsung dengan metode pruposive sampling dan teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi, subjek penelitian meliputi tokoh agama Islam dan Katolik, anggota Forum Kerukunan Umat Beragama (FKUB), serta masyarakat Desa Sumber Arum. Analisis data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan analisis yang telah dilakukan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa strategi komunikasi tokoh agama dalam mewujudkan toleransi umat beragama di Desa Sumber Arum Kabupaten Lampung Utara telah berjalan secara terencana, efektif, dan sesuai dengan langkah-langkah strategi komunikasi. Pada tahap mengenal khalayak, tokoh agama Islam dan Katolik telah memahami karakteristik masyarakat Desa Sumber Arum yang hidup dalam keberagaman agama, dengan komposisi umat Katolik sebagai mayoritas dan umat Islam sebagai minoritas. Pemahaman terhadap latar belakang sosial, budaya, dan keagamaan masyarakat ini menjadi dasar penting dalam membangun komunikasi yang tidak menimbulkan kesalahpahaman. Tokoh agama menyadari potensi konflik yang dapat muncul akibat perbedaan keyakinan, sehingga pendekatan komunikasi yang dilakukan lebih mengedepankan sikap saling menghormati, keterbukaan, dan kebersamaa, pada tahap menyusun pesan, tokoh agama menyampaikan pesan-pesan toleransi yang berisi nilai-nilai universal seperti perdamaian, persaudaraan, kebersamaan, dan saling menghargai umat beragama. Pesan tersebut disusun dengan bahasa yang sederhana, mudah dipahami, dan tidak bersifat provokatif. Penyampaian pesan toleransi dilakukan melalui ceramah keagamaan, khotbah, serta dialog lintas agama, sehingga mampu membangun kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya hidup rukun di tengah perbedaan. Pada tahap menetapan metode, tokoh agama lebih banyak menggunakan metode komunikasi persuasif dan dialogis. Metode ini diterapkan melalui komunikasi langsung, baik secara interpersonal maupun komunikasi kelompok. Contohnya, musyawarah, pertemuan lintas agama, dan keterlibatan tokoh agama dalam kegiatan sosial masyarakat. Metode tersebut dinilai efektif karena mampu menciptakan uasana komunikasi yang akrab, terbuka, dan penuh kepercayaan antar tokoh agama dan masyarakat. Pada tahap seleksi dan penggunaan media, tokoh agama memilih media yang sesuai dengan kondisi masyarakat Desa Sumber Arum. Media yang digunakan lebih dominan berupa komunikasi tatap muka, kegiatan keagamaan, serta aktivitas sosial bersama seperti gotong royong, pengamanan hari raya besar keagamaan, dan doa bersama pada peringatan hari kemerdekaan. Pemilihan media ini dinilai tepat karena mampu menjangkau masyarakat secara langsung dan memperkuat pesan toleransi melalui praktik nyata dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. ABSTRACT This study examines the communication strategies of religious leaders in fostering religious tolerance among the Muslim and Catholic communities in Sumber Arum Village, North Lampung Regency. The background of this research stems from the social reality of the Sumber Arum Village community, who live amidst religious diversity while maintaining harmony and cohesion without conflict. Therefore, it is interesting to examine this from a religious communication perspective. The purpose of this study is to understand the communication strategies used by Muslim and Catholic religious leaders in fostering religious tolerance and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors that influence this process. This study employed a field research approach. This descriptive study employed a qualitative approach. Primary data was obtained directly through purposive sampling, and data collection techniques included observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research subjects included Muslim and Catholic religious leaders, members of the Interfaith Harmony Forum (FKUB), and the Sumber Arum Village community. Data analysis, data presentation, and conclusions were drawn. Based on the results of the research and analysis that has been conducted, it can be concluded that the communication strategy of religious leaders in realizing religious tolerance in Sumber Arum Village, North Lampung Regency has been carried out in a planned, effective, and in accordance with the steps of communication strategy. At the stage of getting to know the audience, Islamic and Catholic religious leaders have understood the characteristics of the Sumebr Arum Village community who live in religious diversity, with the composition of Catholics as the majority and Muslims as the minority. Understanding the social, cultural, and religious background of this community is an important basis in building communication that does not cause misunderstandings. Religious leaders are aware of the potential for conflict that can arise due to differences in beliefs, so the communication approach used prioritizes mutual respect, openness, and togetherness. At the stage of composing messages, religious leaders convey messages of tolerance that contain universal values such as peace, brotherhood, togetherness, and mutual respect for religious communities. The messages are composed in simple, easy-to understand language and are not provocative. The delivery of messages of tolerance is carried out through religious lectures, sermons, and interfaith dialogues, so as to build public awareness of the importance of living in harmony amidst differences. During the method determination stage, religious leaders predominantly employed persuasive and dialogical communication methods. These methods were implemented through direct communication, both interpersonally and in groups. Examples include deliberations, interfaith meetings, and the involvement of religious leaders in community social activities. These methods were deemed effective because they created a friendly, open, and trusting communication atmosphere between religious leaders and the community. During the media selection and utilization stage, religious leaders chose media appropriate to the conditions of the Sumber Arum Village community. The media used predominantly included face-to-face communication, religious activities, and joint social activities such as mutual cooperation (gotong royong), security for major religious holidays, and joint prayers at the commemoration of Independence Day. This media selection was deemed appropriate because it directly reached the community and reinforced the message of tolerance through practical applications in daily life. Thus, it can be concluded that the communication strategy of religious leaders in realizing religious tolerance among the Muslim and Catholic communities in Sumber Arum Village, North Lampung Regency, aligns with the theoretical steps of communication strategy, which include identifying the audience, developing messages, determining methods, and selecting media. The implementation of this strategy contributes greatly to maintaining harmony, strengthening social relations, and creating a harmonious community life amidst religious diversity.
