Abstract

ABSTRACT THE INFLUENCE OF GAMES TO LEARN ENGLISH WEBSITE TOWARDS STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY AT EIGHTH GRADE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL By: MOZZA AULIA RAYLY NUR Vocabulary is an important aspect of learning a language, especially for junior high school students development their English language skills. However, many students facing several difficulties to master vocabulary because lack of motivation and the lack support from parents and the environment. This research aimed to investigate the influence of Games to Learn English website as a media for teaching vocabulary to eighth-grade students at SMPN 4 Terbanggi Besar. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi experimental design. The population consisted of all eighth-grade students, and two classes were selected as the experimental and control class consisting of 63 students. The experimental class was taught with Games to Learn English website as an interactive media, while the control class using conventional learning methods. Data were collected through a pre-test and post-test to measure students‟ vocabulary mastery before and after the treatment. The results indicated a significant improvement in the vocabulary scores of the experimental class compared to the control class taught using picture media. Based on the statistical analysis using an independent sample t-test, the p-value was lower than 0.05, indicating that the use of Games to Learn English was effective in enhancing students‟ vocabulary mastery. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Games to Learn English website is an effective and interesting media for teaching English vocabulary to eighth-grade students at SMPN 4 Terbanggi Besar in the academic year 2025/2026.
