ABSTRACT Marriage is a physical and spiritual bond between a man and a woman. In Javanese marriage, there are various traditions that are passed down from generation to generation, one of which is the prohibition of the large kitchen for the prospective bride before the wedding takes place. The problem studied in this study is how the prohibition of the large kitchen for the prospective bride in Javanese traditional weddings in Pinang Jaya Village, Kemiling District, Bandar Lampung City and how Islamic law reviews the prohibition. The purpose of this study is to find out how the prohibition of the large kitchen for the prospective bride in Javanese traditional weddings in Pinang Jaya Village, Kemiling District, Bandar Lampung City and to examine the Islamic law review of the tradition in the form of a prohibition of the large kitchen for the prospective bride. This study bases its analysis on the theory of al-‟Urf, which is applied to the tradition of prohibiting the large kitchen for prospective brides in Javanese traditional weddings. This study is a field research. The research method applied is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. While secondary data sources come from articles, journals, relevant Islamic legal literature, and internet sites related to the research conducted. Based on the results of this study, it was found that the tradition of prohibiting brides-to-be from entering the main kitchen during traditional Javanese weddings in Pinang Jaya Village, Kemiling District, Bandar Lampung City is still practiced as a tradition passed down from generation to generation, which is interpreted as an effort to maintain the purity, honor, and physical and mental readiness of the bride-to-be ahead of the wedding. This tradition is understood by the community as an effort to ensure the smooth running of the wedding procession and harmony in the household. The tradition is usually carried out approximately one week before the wedding ceremony takes place. From an Islamic legal perspective, this tradition of prohibition shows that the prohibition of entering the large kitchen has no direct basis in the Qur'an or Hadith. However, this tradition can be classified as „Urf ṣaḥīḥ because it does not contradict the Qur'an and Hadith, does not contain elements of shirk, and does not cause direct harm. This prohibition is customary and cultural in nature, not a religious obligation, so it is permissible as long as it is understood as a social tradition and not believed absolutely to determine fate or cause misfortune. Therefore, from an Islamic legal perspective, this tradition can be tolerated and respected as part of the local culture that does not deviate from Islamic values.
