Abstract

ABSTRACT THE INFLUENCE OF STORYBIRD ON IMPROVING STUDENT’S WRITING ABILITY AT SMP NEGERI SATU ATAP 4 TULANG BAWANG BARAT By: Diyan Ekasari Storybird is an effective and easy-to-use digital storytelling platform that supports student writing by combining high-quality visuals and collaborative features. This research was conducted to help teachers overcome problems caused by their anxiety about their students' English skills. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri Satu Atap 4 Tulang Bawang Barat. This study aims to determine whether there is a statistically significant difference in students' writing ability before and after using Storybird media. This research is classified as pre-experimental design research. This research involved 18 ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri Satu Atap 4 Tulang Bawang Barat in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were obtained through pretest and posttest to determine improvements in writing abilities. The results showed a statistically significant difference in students' writing ability before and after using Storybird. The mean pretest score was 68.06, and the mean posttest score was 76.56. Furthermore, the results of the calculation using the paired sample test were obtained: the significance value produced Sig (P value) = 0.000 < α = 0.05. Therefore, H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. Based on these calculations, this shows that the use of Storybird media can improve students' writing ability in narrative texts in grade IX at SMP Negeri Satu Atap 4 Tulang Bawang Barat.
