Abstract

ABSTRACT The Pragmatic Analysis of Deixis in the Karate Kid Movie By Rifqi Saputra Deixis analysis in this film used to answer the ambiguity, confusion and misunderstanding of the meaning of an utterance in the speech of the actors. The use of language that is irregular and ineffective will cause confusion of meaning, and can lead to different perceptions of language recipients. In the Karate Kid movie, there are many examples of deixis used by the characters in dialogue. In this context, deixis analysis will help us understand how these characters build their identities, introduce locations and times in the story, and provide the implicit moral messages in their dialogues. The objective of this research is to identify the types of deixis found in The Karate Kid Movie Script by Harald Zwart and to know the dominant types of deixis found in The Karate Kids Movie Script by Harald Zwart In this research, the researcher used the qualitative research design and the approach used by the researcher is descriptive qualitative. Descriptive method was used because it is kind of linguistic research. The utterances and the subtitle from film The Karate Kid become the primary data. The author watched the Karate Kid film to get a deeper understanding in about the story. Then, the author picked all the deixis from the utterances that will be identified the type of deixis after that. Last, the classification of deixis found in the film according to its form. The technique used by the author was content analysis because it just focused on the. Descriptive qualitative is concerned with what is or what exist is related to some preceding even that has influence or effect present condition. This research has resulted a total 566 deixis with considering Levinson‟s theory. There were 5 main deixis to be analyzed in this research which were person deixis, time deixis, place deixis, discourse deixis and social deixis. The result of this research was the researcher found 429 person deixis for 75 % total percentage, 50 discourse deixis for 9 % total percentage, 33 time deixis for 6 % total percentage, 28 social deixis for 5.2 % total percentage, and 26 place deixis for 4.8 % total percentage. As the result above, the researcher concluded that the dominant deixis found on the Karate Kid Movie script by Harald Zwart using Levinson‟s theory was person deixis with 296 total deixis and contained 75% percentage. The main reason of person deixis could be the dominant deixis was because the criteria of its categorization was common and very important for a dialog movie.
