Abstract

ABSTRACT Reading is a fundamental skill that students need from elementary school through higher education, as it enables them to access information and develop understanding across various subjects. However, many students still experience difficulties in comprehending reading texts, particularly in identifying key information. To address this issue, this study aimed to investigate the effect of using the ReadWorks.org platform on the reading comprehension of eighth grade students at Al-Huda Junior High School. This study employed a quasi-experimental research design involving a pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The population of the study consisted of all eighth-grade students at Al-Huda Junior High School. Using cluster random sampling, two classes were selected as the sample: Class VIII Usamah as the experimental group and Class VIII Thoriq as the control group, each consisting of 39 students. The experimental class received reading instruction using the ReadWorks.org platform, while the control class was taught using conventional reading materials. Both groups were given a pre-test before the treatment and a post-test after the treatment. The findings revealed that the use of the ReadWorks.org platform had a significant effect on students’ reading comprehension. The result of the independent sample t-test showed that the significance value (2 tailed) was 0.000, which was lower than the significance level of α = 0.05. This indicates that the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the ReadWorks.org platform had a meaningful impact on improving students’ reading comprehension in the academic year 2025/2026.
