Abstract
The development of technology and modern lifestyles has made society increasingly consumptive, particularly in the use of premium smartphones such as the iPhone, which is often regarded as a symbol of social status. This has triggered impulsive buying behavior influenced by emotional drives and social trends. One of the main psychological factors driving this phenomenon is Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), which refers to the anxiety of being left behind from ongoing trends or experiences. This study aims to examine the effect of shopping lifestyle on impulse buying, to test whether FoMO moderates the relationship between shopping lifestyle and impulse buying, and to explore the Islamic perspective on shopping lifestyle, impulse buying, and FoMO among iPhone consumers in Bandar Lampung. This study aims to analyze the influence of shopping lifestyle on impulse buying, with Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) as a moderating variable, viewed from the perspective of Islamic business ethics. The study employs a quantitative approach with purposive sampling involving 97 iPhone users in Bandar Lampung. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Square–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) through the SmartPLS 4 application. The results indicate that shopping lifestyle has a positive and significant effect on impulse buying, with an original sample value of 0.155 and a p-value of 0.032. Furthermore, FoMO was found to positively and significantly moderate the relationship between shopping lifestyle and impulse buying, with an original sample value of 0.161 and a p-value of 0.047. From the perspective of Islamic business ethics, uncontrolled shopping behavior driven by emotional impulses such as FoMO can deviate from sharia principles, especially those prohibiting extravagance (israf) and wastefulness (tabdzir). Therefore, it is crucial for consumers to maintain spiritual awareness in their consumption practices, and for businesses to uphold ethical values in their marketing strategies.
