Abstract

ABSTRACT. This research examines the influence of the Memrise application as the independent variable on students' pronunciation mastery as the dependent variable among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Kotakarang. The study aims to determine whether the use of Memrise, with its features such as spaced repetition, native speaker audio, and gamification, significantly enhances pronunciation skills compared to conventional learning methods. The research seeks to provide empirical evidence on the effectiveness of mobile-assisted language learning in improving elementary students' consonant pronunciation. The research employed a quantitative approach with an experimental design, involving 60 fifth-grade students divided into control (Class 5A) and experimental (Class 5B) groups through stratified random sampling. Data were collected via pre-tests and post tests focusing on consonant pronunciation, with the experimental group receiving four sessions of Memrise-based learning in January 2025. Research instruments were validated for content and construct validity, and reliability was ensured. Statistical analysis, including an independent sample t-test, was used to compare the groups' performance. The results revealed a significant influence in the experimental group, with mean scores rising from 42.50 (pre-test) to 70.40 (post test), compared to the control group's increase from 41.17 to 61.73. The t-test result (p = 0.015, p < 0.05) confirmed Memrise's positive impact on pronunciation mastery. The research concludes that Memrise's interactive features effectively enhance pronunciation skills, supporting its integration into language learning for elementary students. These findings highlight the potential of mobile applications in fostering foundational language competencies.
