Abstract

ABSTRACT Poverty is a challenge faced by various regions, including in the Southern Sumatra region, which includes the provinces of South Sumatra, Lampung, Bengkulu, Bangka Belitung, and Jambi. This condition is not only influenced by economic factors, but also by socio-demographic factors. The high poverty rate can indicate that development policies in the region have not been successful. Therefore, the researcher is interested in further analyzing the influence of socio-demographics on poverty in southern Sumatra. This research uses a type of data that is quantitative, namely research that collects quantitative data or other types of data that can be quantified and processed using statistical techniques. The population in this study is 5 provinces in southern Sumatra. Furthermore, the research sample was taken using the Total Sampling technique on the grounds that this sample was taken as a total of all members of the population. Consisting of 5 provinces including the provinces of Jambi, Bengkulu, South Sumatra, Lampung and Kep. The results of the study showed that the AHH variable had a tcount of 6.11 or greater than the t-table which was 2.039. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Life Expectancy Rate has a negative and significant effect on poverty in the southern part of Sumatra. The variable of the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) has a positive and significant effect on poverty in the southern part of Sumatra. The Total Population variable has a t-count of 0.5737 or less than t-count of 2.0395. This means that the number of people does not have a significant effect on poverty. According to Islamic teachings, poverty can have an impact on human resources because poor people only think about how to meet their daily needs, not education or health. If people do not think about education, their standard of living will remain the same in the future, leading to increased unemployment. The availability of quality human resources to advance the nation and state will also be affected by this.
