Abstract

ABSTRACT Many problems are faced by the students in the process of learning English. These problems occur when the students learn speaking skills, such as they lack vocabulary, they lack motivation in English learning, and they were not fluent in speaking, and also the student's low self-confidence in using English in speaking class. Therefore, the researcher used the panauricon strategy to teach speaking. The objective of this research was to find out whether panauricon strategy was effective toward students’ speaking skills in the eighth grade of MTsN 2 Bandar Lampung. The method used in this research was quantitative research in which Quasi-Experimental Design. The population of this research was the eighth-grade students at MTsN 2 Bandar Lampung with a total of 335 students. The sample of this research consisted of 2 classes: 32 students in class VIII U1 as the experimental class and 34 students in VIII U2 as the control class. In collecting the data, the researcher used an oral test for pre-test and post-test. After giving pre-test and post-test, the researcher analyzed the data using using SPSS to compute independent sample t-test. According to the data analysis calculated using SPSS version 23, it obtained that the result of Sig. (2-tailed) in the Independent Sample t-Test was 0.000, which was lower than   = 0.05 and it means (H0) was rejected and (Ha) was accepted. It could be concluded that Panauricon strategy was effective in increasing speaking skills of the eighth-grade students at MTsN 2 Bandar Lampung.
