Abstract

ABSTRACT THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING MAGIC BOX GAME MEDIA TOWARDS STUDENTS' VOCABULARY MASTERY AT JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL By: Endang Solehatun Vocabulary is a crucial aspect of English language learning, yet many students face difficulties in memorizing, understanding, and applying new words effectively. To address this issue, Magic Box was introduced as an interactive and enjoyable visual media to create a fun learning environment and support vocabulary mastery. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of using Magic Box media in teaching vocabulary to seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Penawar Tama in the 2024/2025 academic year. A quasi-experimental design was applied, involving two classes: VIIA as the experimental group and VIIC as the control group, with 66 students in total. Data were collected using pre-tests and post-tests, each containing 25 validated multiple-choice questions. The results showed that the experimental class had a higher post-test mean score (79.88) than the control class (62.30), indicating a significant difference. The data met the assumptions of normality and homogeneity, and the independent samples t-test produced a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05, confirming the significance of the results. In conclusion, the use of Magic Box media was effective in improving students‟ vocabulary mastery. It is suggested that English teachers use Magic Box as a creative tool to enhance vocabulary learning. Future researchers may explore the use of this media in teaching other language skills or at different education levels. Keywords: Effectiveness, Magic Box, Vocabulary Mastery
