Abstract

ABSTRACT Nowadays, learning listening by using online media was one of the most important things to think. YouTube was the biggest and most widely used online video-sharing platform, and its content had gained popularity among people of all ages. Therefore, the writer used short stories on The Fable Cottage YouTube Channel to teach listening. The objective of this research was to find out whether The Fable Cottage YouTube Channel gave an influence on the students’ listening ability. This research used a Quasi-Experimental Design with an Experimental and Control class. The population of this research was the eighth-grade students at Mts Raudlatul Huda Al-Islamy, with a total of 75 students. The sample of this research consisted of 2 classes: 27 students in class VIII B as the experimental class and 22 students in class VIII A as the control class. In collecting the data, the researcher used an instrument of a listening test, in the form of multiple choice with a total of 30 items for the pre-test and post-test. After giving the pre-test and post-test, the writer analysed the normality and homogeneity of data distribution using SPSS version 25. According to the data analysis calculated using SPSS version 25, it was obtained that the result of Sig. (2 tailed) in the Independent Sample t-Test was 0.000, which was lower than ≤ α = 0.05, meaning that (H0) was rejected and (H1) was accepted. As a result of the explanation, it could be concluded that The Fable Cottage YouTube Channel was helpful to influence the students’ listening ability of the eighth grade at Mts Raudlatul Huda Al-Islamy.
