Abstract

ABSTRACT The Influence of Authenthic Materials towards Students’ Reading Comprehension At tenth grade of SMKN 1 Kotabumi By Tri Wahyu Ikhsanudin The reading ability of students at SMKN 1 Kotabumi is still low. Authentic materials are considered an influence medium for teaching reading because they can be used efficiently. Authentic materials train students to learn creatively in structuring engaging reading texts. This study aims to determine whether the use of authentic materials as a learning medium influences the reading ability of tenth grade students at SMKN 1 Kotabumi. This study uses a quasi-experimental design, consisting of an experimental group and a control group. The research subjects include 72 students. The researcher employs cluster random sampling. To collect data, pre-tests and post-tests are used. Data analysis in this study is conducted using a T-test. In conclusion, the experimental class obtained scores ranging from 48.63% to 79.11%, with an increase of 63.69%. The control class obtained scores ranging from 47.90% to 63.66%, with an increase of 32.9%. Both classes showed progress. The study results also indicate that the obtained significance value is 0.000, which is smaller than 0.05. Therefore, H0 is rejected, and Ha is accepted. This means that there is a significant effect of using authentic materials as a learning medium on the reading ability of tenth-grade students at SMKN 1 Kotabumi.
