Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims to find out the students' grammatical errors in writing recount text made by the tenth-grade students at SMAN16 Bandar Lampung. The research question of this research is what common errors are made by tenth-grade students in writing a recount text. The objectives of this research are to find out the most common errors made by the tenth-grade students of SMAN 16 Bandar Lampung in writing a recount text. The technique used to analyze the data of this research is using the theory of error analysis proposed by Dulay et al. The theory that used to found the sources of error propose by Brown. The method of this research is qualitative approach. This research was carried out at SMAN 16 Bandar Lampung. The step of analyzing data are collecting the data, identifying the error, describing the error, explaining the error, and drawing a conclusion. The results of this study showed that tenth-grade students of SMAN 16 Bandar Lampung made mistakes in writing recount texts. The first error made is misformation error type with the number of 77, followed by addition error 23, misordering error 15, omission error 26. Besides, based on the interview analysis, it is found that the students' errors are dominantly caused by the interlingual transfer aspect. Then the aspect of intralingual transfer, context learning, and finally communication strategies. Keywords: Grammatical Errors, Qualitative, Recount Text
