Abstract

ABSTRACT The objectives of this research were to find out the kinds of gender roles in Hidden Figures Movie and find out how kathrine Goble challenge gender roles, Kathrine as the main character. This research was the type of qualitative. The method of research was qualitative research based on creswell. The subject of this research was the main character in the hidden figures movie. The collecting were taken through some procedures namely understanding and identifyng of relevant scenes, collection of dialogue and scene based on the gender roles and feminism,. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman Theory namely data reduction, data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The data triangulation of the research is investigator to re-check data error mistakes in collecting data,and to increase the trustworthiness of more accurate data and increase credibility Based on the findings, it showed that the analysis of Hidden figures movie. The researcher found Kind of gender on the movie, woman roles and man roles and the second found of liberal feminism, black Feminism. There are three data findings that contain or describe liberal feminism. From the analysis it was found there several the data findings is ten of men roles and two kind of woman roles from the hidden figures movie. Meanwhile, the way Kathrine challenges gender roles is by feminism and making changes in the form of rules for women to attend meetings, voicing feminist thoughts, there are two feminisms carried out by Kathrine in the hidden figures film, namely iii liberal feminism and black feminism. The findings of liberal feminism are found in Kathrine's character who makes efforts to gain equality, rights and equal opportunities in the workplace. The findings of black feminism are represented in Kathrine's character who really struggles to change the view of black women. Hidden Figures is a story based on a true story about racism in Virginia, United States set in 1961, which sees white people as superior and more socially accepted and sees black people as not part of their group. In the movie Hidden Figures, Katherine is a black woman, where Kathrine gets racism in a patriarchal society.
