Abstract
ABSTRACK Resilience is an individual's ability to adapt and recover from adversity. Children who are orphaned due to the death of their father are at risk of facing emotional and social challenges. In the Minangkabau matrilineal society, the maternal lineage-based kinship system provides support from the mother, mother, and extended family. However, for children who migrate, limited access to family can be an additional challenge in building resilience. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with in depth interviews as the main method. The subjects consisted of three Minangkabau children aged 18-24 years who had been orphaned for more than five years and were currently living in Bandar Lampung. Data analysis was carried out using NVivo 12 with Connor & Davidson's (2003) resilience theory, which includes aspects of personal competence, trust in the apartment, self-acceptance, self control, and spiritual influence. The results showed that the resilience of orphans was influenced by the support of mothers and mothers in building personal competence and self-acceptance. However, limited access to extended family in the diaspora has an impact on strengthening self-control and trust in the colony. In addition, spiritual influence plays an important role in the coping mechanisms carried out by each subject. In conclusion, the Minangkabau matrilineal system plays a role in shaping the resilience of orphans, but the conditions of migration are additional challenges. Therefore, support from the Minangkabau community in the migration is an important factor in helping them face life without a father.
