Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian kolonisasi Metro Keresidenan Lampung 1937-1942 berfokus pada latar belakang, perkembangan, kehidupan kolonis dan dampak kolonisasi terhadap masyarakat lokal. Pertanyaan penelitian meliputi penyebab kolonisasi di Metro pada periode tersebut, evolusi kolonisasi, dan kondisi sosial-ekonomi, Pendidikan, agama, serta pemerintahan kolonis. Metode penelitian yang diterapkan adalah metode sejarah atau historis, yang terdiri dari tahapan heuristik, verifikasi, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Sumber data diperoleh dari arsip dokumen, dan literatur yang relevan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kolonisasi di Metro dipicu oleh pertumbuhan pesat penduduk di Pulau Jawa, memicu percobaan kolonisasi di wilayah tersebut. Program kolonisasi sukses mengurangi kepadatan penduduk dan mengatasi kemiskinan dengan mengembangkan sektor ekonomi. Para kolonis juga berhasil beradaptasi dengan masyarakat lokal yaitu Marga Buay Unyi dan Buay Nuban, menciptakan harmoni antar kelompok. Implikasi dari penelitian ini bagi sejarah Indonesia adalah pemahaman yang lebih mendalam tentang dinamika kolonisasi pada masa itu, serta pentingnya interaksi yang harmonis antara kolonis dan penduduk asli dalam proses pembangunan dan kehidupan sosial di wilayah tersebut. Kata kunci: Kolonisasi, Metro, Keresidenan Lampung. ii ABSTRACT Research on the colonization of the Lampung Metro Residency 1937-1942 focuses on the background, development, life of the colonists and the impact of colonization on local communities. Research questions include the causes of colonization in Metro during that period, the evolution of colonization, and the socio-economic conditions, education, religion, and government of the colonists. The research method applied is the historical method, which consists of heuristic, verification, interpretation and historiography stages. Data sources were obtained from document archives and relevant literature. The results of the study indicate that colonization in Metro was triggered by rapid population growth on Java Island, triggering colonization experiments in the region. The colonization program successfully reduced population density and addressed poverty by developing the economic sector. The colonists also managed to adapt to the local communities, namely the Buay Unyi and Buay Nuban clans, creating harmony between groups. The implications of this study for Indonesian history are a deeper understanding of the dynamics of colonization at that time, as well as the importance of harmonious interaction between colonists and natives in the development process and social life in the region.
