Abstract
ABSTRACT Students faced several challenges in writing, such as conveying their arguments, organizing ideas, and lacking vocabulary and grammar. In addition, individual work activities made them feel unmotivated in learning writing. To overcome these issues, teachers needed to implement an effective technique. One of the techniques to improve students' writing skills was the Dyadic Essay. This method helped students understand topics through structured instructions, where they worked in pairs to share and discuss their work. The aim of this research was to examine the effectiveness of the Dyadic Essay technique in improving students’ descriptive writing skills A pre-test and post-test design with a quasi-experimental approach was used because the subjects were not randomly assigned to the treatment groups. The population consisted of 128 seventh-grade students of MTs Guppi Natar, with Class VII A as the experimental group and Class VII B as the control group. The research instrument, in the form of a writing test, included both a pre-test and a post-test to collect the data. The pre-test measured students’ descriptive writing ability before treatment, while the post-test evaluated their performance after the treatment. The data were analyzed using SPSS. After administering the post-test, the results were processed using a paired sample t-test, which showed a significance value (P value) of 0.000—less than α = 0.05. This indicated that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. Based on the computation, it can be concluded that there is significant effectiveness of using the dyadic essay technique on students' writing ability in descriptive text at the first semester of the seventh grade at MTs Guppi Natar in the academic year of 2024/2025. This research suggests that teachers utilize the Dyadic Essay Technique to enhance students' writing skills, students actively engage in discussions and practice their writing, and future researchers explore its application at different educational levels and for various learning objectives. Keywords: Dyadic Essay Technique, Experimental Design, Writing Ability.
