Abstract

ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to analyze the types of representational meanings in Ruang Guru's English teaching videos based on Kress and van Leeuwen's framework. This research focused on identifying about a multimodal analysis in teaching video Ruang Guru. Meanwhile, the sub-focus of this research was conducted to know about types of representation meaning used English Language Teaching on Ruang Guru Video. The method of this research type was content or document analysis. The data were taken from Ruang Guru YouTube Video. The instrument of research was the researcher herself who analyzed the representational meaning on Ruang Guru Video. The data were analyzed through four steps namely data reduction, data condensation, data display and conclusion drawing. To validate the data of research, it was used triangulation theory but the researcher also validates to the lecturer. Based on the findings, it was found that types of representational meaning were found including Action process, Reactional process, Verbal and mental process, Conversational process, Classificational process, and Analytical process. However, there was no Geometrical symbolism process because the video did not use any geometrical symbols to represent ideas. Additionally, there was no Embedded process because each picture in the video carried multiple meanings instead of combining one meaning into a single visual. This shows that some types were not used although the video uses many types of meaning to explain the material. Keywords: Multimodal Analysis, Representational Meaning, Ruang Guru
