Abstract

ABSTRACT Most students in senior high school had difficulty in reading comprehension, especially in narrative text. Even tough reading is a language competency that has an important role. This competency is acquired to develop an understanding of other people‘s ideas through books or written form. Numbered Heads Together technique could help with this problem, because this technique could make students more interested and active in learning process. The purpose of this research was to find out whether there was an increase of the using Numbered Heads Together technique the student‘s reading comprehension in narrative text. Quasi-experimental design was used. The population of this research was the tenth grade. The sample of this research was chosen through random sampling technique. The sample of this research was taken two classes consisting of 15 students for experimental class and 15 students for control class. Numbered Heads Together was used in experimental class and Grammar Translation Method was used in control class to teach students. The treatments were held in three meetings in which 2 x 45 minutes for each class. To collect the data, pre-test and post-test were implemented in reading test by serving multiple choice test which consists of 20 items for each test. In collecting the data, the writer used instruments pre test and post test. After giving the post test, the writer analyzed by using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science).From the analyzed it was found that the result of sig. (2-tailed) of the equal variance was 0.000 and =0.05. Ha is accepted if sig. (Pvalue ) <α = 0.05 and Ho is rejected. Based on the computation, it can beconcluded that there was a significant increase of using Numbered Heads Together (NHT) technique the Students Reading Comprehension in Narrative Text at the Tenth Grade Students of SMA Darusy Syafa‘ah in the Academic Year of 2024/ 2025. So, this Numbered Heads Together technique can be used to increase students reading comprehension skills in narrative text. Keywords: Reading comprehension, narrative text, NHT
