Abstract
ABSTRACT The objectives of research were to analyze the type of speech function used by English teacher at English class of MTS Jabal Annur Al Islami Bandar Lampung and to analyze the speech roles used by English teacher at English class of MTS Jabal Annur Al-Islami Bandar Lampung. The method of this research was descriptive qualitative. The sample of this research was the English teacher. The researcher used purposive sampling technique in choosing the sample of research. Data collecting techniques used in this research were observation and documentation. The data were analyzed by four steps namely data reduction, data condensation, data display and conclusion drawing. Based on the findings, it showed that this research highlighted the diverse types of speech functions employed by the English teacher at the eighth grade of MTS Jabal Annur Al-Islami Bandar Lampung, specifically identifying offers, commands, statements, and questions. The analysis of classroom interactions reveals that the speech roles employed by the English teacher at the eighth grade of MTS Jabal Annur Al-Islami Bandar Lampung predominantly involved giving and demanding functions. These speech functions show a balanced way of communicating in class that helps teaching and learning. Statements give students basic information, while questions encourage students to think and join discussions. Commands help keep order in the classroom. Although offers are less common, they show the teacher values teamwork and support. These speech functions create a dynamic learning environment that helps students interact, learn, and engage better. This study highlights how important these communication strategies are for improving learning outcomes. In conclusion, the research reveals that the English teacher at MTS Jabal Annur Al-Islami predominantly uses speech functions such as statements, questions, commands, and offers, with a strong focus on giving and demanding functions.
