Abstract

ABSTRACT Many problems were faced by the students in the process of learning English. These problems occur when the students learn writing. Therefore, the researcher used the technique Guiding Question to teach writing. This research was to determine whether Guiding Question technique was effective toward students’ writing ability at the eighth grade of MTsN 2 Bandar Lampung. In this research, quantitative research which Quasi Experimental Design was used. The population of this research was the eighth-grade students at MTsN 2 Bandar Lampung with a total of 306 students. The sample of this research consisted of 2 classes: 25 students in class VIII U1 as the experimental class and 25 students in VIII U2 as the control class. In collecting the data, the researcher used a writing test for pre-test and post-test. After giving pre-test and post test, the researcher analyzed the normality and homogeneity distribution data using SPSS version 29. According to the data analysis calculated using SPSS version 29, it obtained that the result of Sig. (2-tailed) in Independent Sample t-Test was 0.000, which was lower than   = 0.05 and it means (H0) was rejected and (Ha) was accepted. It could be concluded that Guiding Question is effective in increasing writing ability of the eighth-grade students at MTsN 2 Bandar Lampung.
