Abstract

ABSTRACT Derivational affix gets the change of word class and meaning after added by the prefix, suffix, infix or circumfix. Derivational affix usually occurs in noun, verb, adverb, and adjective. Derivational affix changes the total contextual meaning of the word. The subjects of this research are Jimmy Kimmel interviews video that is uploaded in Jimmy Kimmel Live YouTube Channel. This research is aimed to analyze the types, functions, and meaning of the three videos of Jimmy Kimmel interviews. The researcher chooses the video of interviewing BLACKPINK, Anna Sawai, and Priyanka Chopra because the artists is non-native speaker. This research is a content analysis which is done by analyzing a written object such as transcript. The data collecting technique of this research is recording, and the data analysis technique that is used is thematic analysis. The instrument of this research is human instrument, which is the researcher herself that collect the data. After doing the analysis, the research found that there are three types of derivational affixes that found in the three videos on Jimmy Kimmel Youtube Channel. The three types of derivational affixes identified by the researcher in the three videos interview are prefixes inter- (1), a- (3), suffixes -ers (1), -ly (20), -ary (1), -ing (8), - ion (2), -ance (2), -er (4), -ed (2), -d (1), -al (2), -ness (2), -en (1), - able (3), -ic (1), -ure (1), -or (1), -ful (1), and circumfixes (re- -ive) and (un- -able). In looking for function of derivational affix, the researcher found four functions of derivational affix in the three videos, which are noun formation (13), adverb formation (22), adjective formation (20), and verb formation (4). In looking for meaning derived from the formation of new words after undergoing the process of derivational affixes, which are to emphasize, to express action and show a process, to indicates not, to indicates between, to connect with, to related to a region, made of, and indicated a tendency.
