Abstract
ABSTRACT In learning English, there are four skills that must be mastered by students, Speaking is one of the skills to be mastered by students in order to communicate in English. Speaking is a complex process that involves the transfer of information from one individual to another through the use of spoken language. However, there are still many students who experience difficulties in learning speaking skills due to several factors. These include lack of vocabulary mastery, fear of making mistakes in pronunciation, lack of speaking practice, lack of motivation to learn to speak, and the stigma that speaking English is difficult. Based on preliminary research at SMA N 1 Baradatu, it was found that 60% of students at Tenth grade got a score below the KKM (72). The objective of this study was to know whether there is any influence of using chain story game toward students’ speaking ability at tenth grade of SMA N 1 Baradatu. The research approach used in this study was quantitative method by using a quasi-experimental design. The population of this research was the students’ Tenth grade of SMA N 1 Baradatu in academic year of 2024/2025 with totals 129 students. The total sample in this research was 68 students, 34 students of X IPA 2 dan 34 students of X IPS 1. In collecting the data, the researcher gave treatment in experimental class and no treatment to control class and pre test also post test in both of class by gave an oral. After giving the test, the researcher analyzed the data by using SPSS Statistics 25. The result of the study is the data had not normal distribution and Not homogen, then the hypothetical test used the Mann-Whitney U showed the Sig.(Pvalue) = 0.000. It was lower than α = 0.05 and it means that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. It can be concluded that there is a significant effect of using Chain story game toward students’ speaking ability of the Tenth grade at SMA N 1 Baradatu in academic year of 2024/2025.
