Abstract
ABSTRACT This study aims to answer two research questions: what phonological deviation are found in students‟ speaking and what are the meanings in context described in the phonological deviation in students‟ speaking performance. The answer of two research questions will be presented at once: the figurative language, context, and meaning. Because to found the figurative language and the types, the researcher should analysed about contextual meaning firstly, from the continuous of sentence in the trasncipt, the researcher found the meaning of the trasncipt, from the meaning based on context of the trasncript can found the phonological deviation, and then the researcher can determine the phonological deviation types. So, the researcher presented answer two questions at once. The concept of phonological deviation is viewed from different perspectives by different scholars. While some scholars see the terms "phonological deviation" and “phonological interference" as synonymous, others maintain that any deviation in the use of English from British norms is classified as "error". Yet others associate the term with bilingual speakers. Weinreichas quoted in Ashikeni and Akoshi sees "phonological deviation" and “phonological interference" as synonymous that is, those instances of deviation from the norms of either Language occur in the speech of bilinguals as a result of their familiarity with more than one language From the analysis presented in the previous section, it can be inferred that English students has been utilized phonological deviation in different way in two selected videos by Adinda Ayu Mirmala Sari and Nur Zahina Wahyu Kinanti for the purpose of this study. Amongst four types of phonological deviation – Alliteration, assonance, consonance and rhyme. In first video by Nur Zahina Wahyu Kinanti there are four types of phonological deviation, in another side, the video ftom Adinda Ayu Nirmala Sari just found two types of phonological deviation, there are Alliteration and assonance. Moreover, amongst these three preferences of types of phonological deviation, assonance turned to be the most favorable one for those students when speaking.
