Abstract

ABSTRACT Multimodality refers to the interplay between different representational modes, for instance, between images and written/spoken word. Multimodality has been studied in relation to a variety of text genres, but it has yet to be used to English courses logos. This paper is aimed to know the representation and interactive meaning of each logo of the three English courses in Bandar Lampung. This is a qualitative-research that uses a multimodal discourse analysis paradigm. Visual and verbal data were gained from three English courses such as LIA, English First and Standard Ghandhi. The analysis includes representational meaning Kress & van Leeuwen, 2006. The data source of this research were the logos of the three English courses; LBPP LIA, English First and Standard Gandhi and theoretical texts as well as any information acquired from the. In this research applied documentary technique for collecting the data. The instrument used in this study was the researcher itself. The data analysis used data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. The result of representational meaning of English courses logo consists of narrative meaning and conceptual meaning. The representational meaning of three English course consists of action process, reactional process, verbal process, and conversion process. Meanwhile the conceptual meaning of three English courses such as LIA, English First dan Standard Gandhi consists of symbolic process and classificational process. Meanwhile, in the interactive meaning of three English course consists of visual contact, social distance, and modality.
