Abstract

ABSTRACT In this study, Critical discourse analysis of indonesian capital to the nation's capital using Van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis framework provided insights into the relocation of Indonesia's capital from Jakarta to Nusantara in East Kalimantan. The study aimed to explore how media discourse frames and interprets this significant national development project. Applying Van Dijk's framework allowed for a focused examination of macrostructure (overall narrative structure) and superstructure (ideological positions and power dynamics) within the social context of Indonesia's political and economic landscape. The findings indicate a dominant narrative emphasizing economic decentralization and infrastructure development, led by President Joko Widodo's administration. However, the analysis also uncovered concerns regarding funding challenges, socio-political implications, and environmental sustainability. These findings underscore the complex interplay between political power, economic interests, and public discourse in shaping perceptions and decisions related to national capital relocation projects. This study contributes to critical discourse analysis literature by applying a systematic framework to analyze media representations of urban planning and national development. It provides insights into the role of media in influencing public opinion and policy discourse on transformative infrastructure projects. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for policymakers, urban planners, and stakeholders involved in similar large-scale development initiatives.
