Abstract

ABSTRACT Making news or article of course in it there also lots of language used by the author of news. Sometimes the meaning implied in the news is not conveyed by the reader. In 2021 there are many problems in the world includes in the education world. In Indonesia, the world education is being discussed a lot at the start of the new school year in 2021, where all school officials feel that online learning is not effective. Many students and parents want learning to be done offline at school. Qualitative content analysis method was applied in order to find out the result of data analysis. The data of this study are only utterance in the Jakarta Post Website in education news edition February to April 2021. The research was analyzed using theory from George Yule to find out the types, function and meaning of the utterance. In data analysis, this research used content analysis. To see the dominant type and function of illocutionary act, this research used percentage and counted it manually. The result of this research showed that in the data, there were 282 utterances of illocutionary act that consist of 180 Assertives data, 57 Directives data, 13 Commisives data, 28 Expressives data, 4 declaration data. The meaning that was found are informs, explain, conclusion, affirmation, report, describe, ordering, suggestion, request, threats, feelings, planning, and present a declaration. The most dominant speech act categories found in the speech is Assertives or Representative speech act. Keyword : Pragmatics, Illocutionary Act, Jakarta Post Website, Education News.
