Abstract

ABSTRACT Teacher face difficulty teaching English due to students' limited vocabulary, which leads to low motivation to learn. In this case, the teacher strategy plays an important role in the success of vocabulary teaching. The objectives of the research were to know the strategy used by the English teacher in teaching vocabulary at SDN 31 Tegineneng. A descriptive-qualitative research design was used in this study. The subject in this study is a teacher who teaching English at the sixth-grade students of SDN 31 Tegineneng. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data findings were analyzed by Ary theory, namely: Organizing and familiarizing, coding and reducing, interpreting and representing. Then, to show the trustworthiness of the data, this research used triangulation techniques. The result of this study was strategies used by teacher in teaching English vocabulary. The teacher's teaching strategies in teaching vocabulary are translation, memorization, and playing games. The media used by the teacher: pictures, realia/ real things, and the student's English book. The multiple strategies will ease students in mastering vocabulary. By mastering the vocabulary, students can automatically master English, too, because vocabulary is essential to learning English. Keywords: Teaching Strategies; Vocabulary; Teaching Vocabulary
