Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the type of language style, and find out the meaning of the language style used and the dominant language style in the lyrics of Don't Be a Drop-Out Song's song. This research used the theory of Keraf. Language style is a unique and distinctive way in which an individual or group expresses themselves through language, encompassing factors such as vocabulary choice, sentence structure, tone, and rhetorical devices. It serves as a reflection of cultural, social, and personal identity, shaping how ideas are communicated and perceived. The research method used is qualitative descriptive, the author uses human instruments. The source of data in this study was the lyrics of the song Don't Be a Drop Out by James Brown. The data was analyzed by using some steps data condensation, data display, and conclusion. Based on the data analyzed, the author concluded that the language styles found in this study were only the following types: Simile 2 (8%), metaphor 18 (75%), and personification 4 (17%), this study could not find allegories, eponymous, and irony. So, it can be concluded that the dominant language style is metaphor. On the other hand, the meaning of lyrics of the song Don't Drop-out told a story that delves into the lives of individuals who, although they may not seem clearly good or bad, find success through education. It underscores the idea that adherence to rules and obtaining an education paves the way for stories of positive outcomes underpinning the transformative power of education, using personal experience and reflection to convey powerful messages about its value and the potential negative outcomes associated with dropping out.
