Abstract

ABSTRACT The objectives of this research were to describe the types of errors, identify the dominant types of errors, and analyze why errors occurred in the thesis abstracts of English Education students at the Tarbiyah and Teachers Training Faculty of the State Islamic University of Raden Intan Lampung. The sub-focus of the research centered on thesis abstracts published by English Education students in 2021. The study employed a descriptive qualitative method, analyzing 10 thesis abstracts from undergraduate students published in 2021. The steps for error analysis included collection, identification, description, explanation, and evaluation of errors, following the framework established by Corder. The results indicated that the errors committed by undergraduate students included word addition, word choice, capitalization, word omission, spelling, punctuation, tense usage, and word form. These errors arose from various processes depending on their types and were attributed to interlingual interference, intralingual interference, limited knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary, and carelessness.
