Abstract

ABSTRACT Linguistic variation in sociolinguistic research has an integral part of it: euphemisms. In order to understand the meaning or underlying context of a word, phrase, or sentence that incorporates euphemism, it was interested to examine and discuss this aspect of euphemism. This research was conducted to find out ; (1) the types of euphemism on the Jakarta Post Political News, and (2) the function of euphemism on the Jakarta Post Political News. This study's research design was based on the descriptive qualitative approach with content analysis as the research design. Data was obtained on The Jakarta Post website News. The data was analyzed through the process of categorizing, analyzing and drawing a tentative conclusion. Here, I serves as the primary tool, I read the news and uses field note to write some main points of the political news in June 2023. As the result, it was found six types of euphemism : acronym and abbreviation, idiom, hyperbole, metaphor, litotes (understatement), synecdoche. Second, it was found four functions of euphemism: to inform, evaluate, organize (convience), critize. Keyword: Euphemism, Analysis, National Section, Jakarta Post.
