Abstract
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to find the significant influence of using annotating strategy towards students’ reading comprehension in recount text at 8th grade students of SMP N 1 Talang Padang. Experimental research was used as a methodology in this study. The study was carried out in two classes, which was the controlled class and the experimental classes. The data were gathered through tests which were delivered into the pre-test and the post-test. The result of the study showed that the annotating strategy was effective to use in teaching reading comprehension of recount text. Gained score of the experimental class (24,19) is higher than the controlled class (10). From the result of statistic calculation, it was concluded that this research has data results which normality test was not normal and homogeneity test was homogenous. So the hypothesis test uses a non-parametric test, which is the Mann-Whitney U test. Based on the analysis of data calculations in hypothesis testing, a significant effect can be seen in the Mann-Whitney U table where the Sig. (2tailed) the same variant, which is 0.000<0.05, means that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, it means that the annotating strategy can positively and better influence students’ reading comprehension.
